”a little taste…”

of something new? my taste buds are already perking up at the little rumor going about town of a new restaurant coming to church street this summer. the what used to be smokejacks has sat empty and abandoned for far too long but is that lonely looking yet prime spot about to get a face lift? hope so. also hope that the menu will be delicious, filled with yummy seafood to enjoy at outdoor seating and ready just in time for summer weather. vodka tonics and grilled shrimp? yes please!

now to investigate this rumor further… more to come!

it’s actually been sunny here in vermont this week and with all that sunshine comes my l-o-v-e of new summer dresses. the engagement shoot by sarah yates that i came across while doing some research (and shameless blog stalking of junebug weddings) has the dress that i must find this summer. bright pink, orange and flowers. heaven. and totally acceptable and necessary for summer cocktails on lake champlain…

jumping on the tuesdayshoesday bandwagon today and getting a little dreamy with this not so easily found in vermont pair…

sadly, shoe pickings around btv are a little slim so this girl had to get dreamy via kate spade’s website today. these sandals aren’t only perfect because of the peals and bow (yes, l-o-v-e both!) but they also look like they could be comfy to wear during the many many many hours i will be on my feet this summer assisting and planning some fabulous weddings with storied events! excitement for wedding planning, summertime and of course pretty things on this tuesday!

it’s been a rather no-good-not-so-fabulous-crummy week. to make matters worse i am also unlucky enough to have an 18 mile training run tomorrow and therefore cannot drown my week in a bottle of rex goliath this evening. simply awful. so in an attempt to lift my rotten mood and the cloud that has been following me around all week, i have been stalking pretty things in my free time. pretty things that make me smile, inspire me and just plain make me want them. like these precious little bags featured on style me pretty. yes, i think my week would be much better if my lunch was packed each day in one. please and thank you!

in a perfect world i would always look put together and be able to wear a skirt, spend equal amounts of time at the barn and near the ocean with my favorite person, have reason to own and the right place for a chandelier like new moon’s, use chalkboards for all of my lists and as fabulous decorations, have miss madeline always behaving and by my side and somehow make a career out of playing with pretty things and planning lavish parties and beautiful weddings… all the while living the green life, eating healthy from my very own garden, and running daily. big dreams.

the sun may have been shining this weekend and yes, those may be faint tan lines on my chest from my first burn of the season buuuut let’s be serious- we live in Vermont. the weather changes nearly every minute here. so, as tempting as it was to put away all the sweaters, turtlenecks and corduroys this weekend i forced myself to refrain. i did get to wear sandals for 3 days and that felt fabulous but i also have a rather strong feeling that boot season is still upon us. that being said, VTuesday Shoesday is brought to you today by the leather two-toned riding boot (that I currently cannot afford) and that is available at Tootsies.

PS- they are currently offering a buy one get one free wall… maybe someone will kindly send these boots my way? pretty please.

i slacked on the “making it a not so miserable monday” post yesterday, my apologies. but what i must admit is that it actually was a not so miserable monday… my weekend was amazing (as the above picture of saturday’s sunset at shelburne beach proves), monday was filled with butterflies (the kinda sorta good kind that are caused by excitement and a tad bit of anxiety) and i am hoping that this week means BIG things, GREAT things. so if you all can cross your fingers for me, pray, send good vibes, whatever it is you do it would be much appreciated. the goal of this week is to end it with some GOOD, GREAT and GRAND life changing news (which hopefully I will be able to post about in coming days!). until then i will sift through pics from the weekend, enjoy the warmer temps and keep myself very distracted…

oh, and plan B is red wine. lots of it. but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that…

the view out my sunday window

sunday is my favorite day of the week by far. i try to never have things i have to do on a sunday, only what i want to do. i’ve also been very lucky to have made sunday dedicated to spending time with my favorite person. this sunday we vowed to not do anything, just go with the flow. a lazy breakfast, a stroll down to the river with miss madeline, windows open in the barn all day and now a picnic dinner. as this sunday is winding down and a beautiful weekend is coming to an end i am realizing just how lucky i am and how much i truly love my life in vermont.

“a little taste…”

a little late but better than never…

a dear follower pointed out to me, oh so sweetly, that i was slacking on my thursday post about fabulous food and places to eat here in vermont. sorry, i was distracted by the sunshine. anywho, today’s taste is inspired by new moon on cherry st. in burlington and their super popular nantucket chicken sandwich. now, i don’t doubt the deliciousness of this sandwich but i am a vineyard girl and am slightly disappointed to see such fanfare for the other island. sorry, LoveVermont but my heart is with the vineyard on this one. but, rather than complain or speak poorly of the extremely fabulous new moon i decided to take action. so, like i said this morning mr/mrs new moon, i see a grilled shrimp salad with vineyard vinaigrette in your summer future! and i know quite a few vineyard kids up here who would come in to try it…

until then, i promise to still come and stuff my face under your brilliant chandelier!

VTuesday Shoesday

some fabulous ladies got together in the blog/twitter world and came up with a brilliantly dreamy tuesday post- TuesdayShoesday. thanks to them me and my vermont friends who live for all things pretty have something (multiple pairs actually) to drool over every tuesday. now, vermont may not be the most practical place for a pair of marc jacobs heels but our beautiful state does offer some adorable little boutiques and a whole season that brings reason to owning mud boots. so today, let me introduce you to VTuesday Shoesday featuring cheery rain boots and brought to you by the season of mud. check out this adorable pair by Lily Pulitzer (found locally at Monelle on Church St.). puddle dancing anyone?

the weather forecast for this weekend is two words- simply amazing!

4. saturday will be filled with sun

5. my scheduled 15 mile run is looking a lot less daunting and a lot more like a sun tan

just got back from an 11 mile run on a friday night! definitely not my favored TGIF activity but i am “training” for my first marathon aaaand it is only about 8 weeks away. buuuut that’s a whole different post that will come in the very near future and will be filled with sheer panic (promise).

so i must admit that tonight’s run and was actually quite soothing. the low 20’s temps were brutal but the sun was shining and the route took me through new charlotte roads filled with dream houses i had somehow not previously discovered. as i looped through these dream homes (mostly all renovated farm houses) and passed stunning views of lake champlain i found myself drifting into thoughts of home. home as in the vineyard. i still shock myself when i realize how much i have fallen in love with this strange place called vermont and how i have managed to live (a very happy) life away from the ocean for the past 3 years. it’s crazy. shocks me.

but i find comfort in my random thoughts of home, my family, the ocean and the fact that i still love and am forever drawn to all things beachy, coastal, navy blue, striped and just plain nautical. as i ran tonight i tried to envision how i would decorate each of the dream homes i passed. every vision i came up with was filled with vineyard touches- striped rugs, bright colors, prints of of the beach and cottage style furniture. love it.

vermont is adding this whole new piece to my life but i am still and (will forever be) pure island on the inside.

”a little taste…”

yes, i said that i was attempting to transform thursday posts into a little taste of the foodie world in vermont. well, that dream was semi short lived (or may just be modified). see the problem is that i have expensive taste. most things that i yearn for (food, wine, cashmere, exotic trips, even a simple pair of new jeans) fall into the category of “i can’t afford you”. until i figure out the equation that will lead me to quadruple my meager twenty-something earnings i simply need to fake it. or just improvise and mostly just dream. so with that, today i give you a little taste of the food related organization i yearn for.

above pictures (care of Country Living) highlight a few of my dream kitchen/organized life amenities. blackboards, baskets, and butcher block. i know my future little yellow vermont farmhouse will house these quite perfectly (once i can afford them!)
